Home Chapter: West Virginia Chapter

City/state of residence: St. Albans, West Virginia

University/degree: West Virginia University / bachelor’s in journalism with an emphasis on public relations

What year did you join PRSA (national)?  2015

What was your first job out of college? Suite Coordinator for the former West Virginia Power, then the Class-A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates (2013)

What was your biggest career lesson? Your resume can be full of technical skills and training, but having emotional intelligence is key to effective leadership and relationship building.

What is the most unusual thing you had to do/most memorable moment in your career? When I worked in minor league baseball, the entire staff would participate in tarp pulls over the infield when it was raining. It was always chaotic because we would have to wait for the umpires to call the rain delay, which was usually after the rain (and wind!) had set in. It made for some funny memories and experiences but was also a great lesson in teamwork!

What lesson do you want to share with graduates entering the workforce in PR?  Every position I’ve held has required event planning skills. Take the time to learn how to plan, promote and execute special events!

What is your favorite aspect of the PR profession? I’m a people person and I’ve always loved event planning. Creating unique experiences that help share a company or organization’s story with their target audiences is by far my favorite part of PR.

What is your opinion about AI and how it relates to the PR profession? AI is here to stay and will only continue to become more complex. It’s our responsibility as PR professionals to understand how we can use it as a tool to make us more efficient and effective, and not see AI as a threat.

What do you most value about being a member of PRSA? Having a network of professionals who understand your role and can relate to your challenges, triumphs and everything in between continues to be valuable to me, especially as a young professional. I also love that PRSA at the national, district and chapter levels have so many opportunities to submit work for awards and recognition. The submission process is a great time to reflect on your work and get feedback from peers.

When not working, where would we find you? What’s your favorite pastime? When I’m not working my “9-5,” you can find me hanging out with family and friends, listening to Taylor Swift, headed to Disney World or planning vacations! In 2021, I became a travel agent with Goldgell Getaways. I’m a Disney adult so most of my clientele are families planning Disney vacations. I’ve also had the opportunity to send clients to Europe, all-inclusive resorts, on cruises and more! Growing up, I had the privilege to vacation at Disney World and other fun locations with my family often. I love helping people create their own memories and experiences with their children, family and friends.
