March 2024

Hello PRSA ECD Community:

As March ushers in Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, it offers us a moment to reflect on the essence of inclusivity and the opportunities it brings. This year’s theme, “A World of Opportunities,” invites us to consider how we can contribute to building a more inclusive society as a community of communication professionals. It’s a theme that resonates with our values at PRSA ECD, especially in light of our ongoing efforts to enhance professional development and leadership within our ranks.

In February, our discussions at the National PRSA Town Hall and ECD’s Coffee Chat centered around the resources and initiatives we have or need to support our professional growth. From on-demand webinars and toolkits to updated webpages on industry issues to reading new books or discussing challenging topics, we’ve seen firsthand how these tools can expand our knowledge and skills. While aimed at professional development, these resources also underscore the broader principle of creating opportunities for all, mirroring the inclusive spirit of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Learn more about Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month here and the organization that hosts the campaign, the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities

Our recent conversations on leadership development highlighted the importance of nurturing a culture where everyone has the chance to advance and make an impact. This applies equally to those already in leadership positions and those guided to ascend the ranks. Just as we are committed to fostering growth among our members, we recognize the importance of advocating for a world that offers equal opportunities to individuals with developmental disabilities.
This month, I encourage you to reflect on how you can contribute to this world of opportunities. Whether through advocating for more inclusive practices in your workplace, participating in community outreach, or simply educating yourself and others about developmental disabilities, your actions can make a profound difference.

Together, let’s commit to growth—not just within our professional spheres but as advocates for a society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, has access to a world of opportunities. Let’s use our skills, voices, and platforms to contribute to a more inclusive, understanding, and opportunity-filled world.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to excellence in your chapters and through community and industry advocacy. Here’s to creating a world of opportunities, together.

Warm Regards,
