ECD Chair’s November 2024 Message
November 2024
As we move into November, I want to take a moment to reflect on the exciting events we’ve recently experienced and share some updates for the rest of the year.
Leadership Assembly and ICON Recap
October was an exciting and productive month for PRSA. Our Leadership Assembly gathered passionate professionals dedicated to shaping the future of our organization. ICON 2024 in Anaheim followed with great success, featuring inspiring keynote speakers, insightful sessions, and dynamic networking. This year’s ICON truly showcased the strength of our profession and equipped us with powerful tools to continue advancing public relations in an ever-evolving landscape.
Personally, I had a fantastic experience at ICON in Anaheim! Representing PRSA ECD at the Leadership Assembly was an honor. We engaged in thoughtful discussions and voted on key issues, from electing new leaders to passing bylaw amendments. The energy and commitment in the room were palpable, reminding me of the dedication and passion that drive our Society forward.

One of my highlights was connecting with so many of you, our devoted volunteer leaders. Our meet-up at Puesto was a special moment where we exchanged ideas, built lasting connections, and strengthened the bonds that make our district the best in PRSA. Your hard work and enthusiasm are truly inspiring, and I am grateful for your role in our success.
I’m excited to carry this momentum with us as we move forward. Together, we’ll continue driving the strategic goals we discussed, finding new ways to support and grow our chapters and district.
International Stress Awareness Week – Nov. 4-8
It’s important to acknowledge that while PR is a rewarding career, it can also be stressful. As we observe International Stress Awareness Week on November 4-8, taking stock of our well-being is crucial. According to a recent Muck Rack survey, on a scale from 1 to 10, PR professionals rate their stress as a 7, with 70% of respondents saying their stress levels are above the midpoint. A staggering 96% of PR pros report difficulty switching off after work.
With that in mind, I want to share a few tips to help manage stress and protect your well-being:
- Set Boundaries: It’s easy to overcommit in our fast-paced industry. Set clear limits on your time and availability, professionally and personally, and protect time for yourself.
- Unplug and Detach: Take regular breaks from work, screens, and the constant flow of news. Make time each day for relaxation and activities you genuinely enjoy.
- Connect With Community: Spend time with loved ones and seek out supportive groups where you can share and connect. Volunteering is also a great way to gain perspective and contribute to the well-being of others.
- Practice Mindfulness: Techniques like meditation, deep breathing, yoga, or journaling can help calm the mind and reduce stress in the moment. Remember to stay present and mindful in your daily activities.
I’m also pleased to announce that PRSA will release a Mental Health Toolkit at our November board meeting. This will offer resources to help you navigate stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Please join us at 9 a.m. on November 26 for our Coffee Chat, where we’ll discuss this toolkit and reflect on our month together.
Upcoming Events & Recognition
PRSA ECD still has many exciting activities as we approach the year’s end. Reciprocal judging for our Diamond Awards is underway, and we look forward to announcing the winners before the year concludes.
A special congratulations goes out to our 2024 Platinum Award winner, Marc Whitt. Marc’s incredible 40-year career has earned him over 40 accolades for his outstanding service and contributions to the public relations profession. We are thrilled to honor him for his exemplary work.
We recently recognized our newly elected 2025 ECD Board Slate voted on by our ECD board members, which you can read more in our monthly newsletter and on Facebook.
A Grateful Heart
Finally, as we celebrate Thanksgiving this month, I want to express my deep gratitude to all of you—my colleagues and friends—who make PRSA a rewarding and enriching organization. For 24 years, I’ve had the privilege of being actively involved in PRSA, and the passion and dedication of our members continually inspire me. Thank you for your support, energy, and commitment to our profession.
Wishing you a wonderful month ahead!
Warm regards,
Jennifer L. Kramer, APR
