ECD June Chapter Spotlight: The Hits Keep Coming for Cincinnati PRSA
To the skeptics, Pete Rose claiming he never placed a bet against the Reds when he was team manager seems a bit shaky. But when he would say, “Cincinnati is a great little town,” it came off the bat just as solid as one of his 4,256 hits.
The Queen City is not just a great town; it’s also the home of a great team of PR pros. For the month of June, the PRSA East Central District shines the Chapter Spotlight on Cincinnati PRSA.
Cincinnati PRSA was founded in 1951 and today has 127 members. They work primarily in the PR sectors of agency, corporate, non-profit, education, and entrepreneurship. 2026 Chapter President Suzanne Boys says a “Fun Fact” about her chapter is that it claims 42 APR’s and a Fellow PRSA.
The Chapter recently completed Media Day, their “Biggest Project” of the year. “Our Media Day centered around the theme ‘PR with Purpose,’ and tied a focus on evolving media and AI to the ethical foundations of PR,” said Suzanne. “With active community service, strong connections to local PRSSA chapters, and a robust APR prep program, we are making good progress into 2026.”
Suzanne shared her vision for Cincinnati PRSA in an excellent February blog post PR Through Lines. “Without a doubt, PRSA has played a pivotal role in my career,” she said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without this organization.”
“As I thought about the year ahead, my thoughts kept coming back to the phrase ‘through lines,’” she said. “It took me a beat to understand why.”
“At least to me, the environment feels unsettled. We came through the pandemic with changed notions of work and connection. The political temperature is high, and the cultural impacts of siloing are evident. Technology is evolving faster than we can address the attendant questions of authenticity, transparency, and human value. We live screen-mediated lives, with new rules about what it means to communicate. And we swim through a Niagara Falls of information every day.
“Is it just me, or is all of that wearying?”
Suzanne described the “through lines” in a novel or movie as “the plot threads that connect one scene to another. And I believe there are cultural, community, and industry through lines as well. For me, those through lines act like the white edge line on a road during a heavy rain or fog. I can’t see much, but I can see the edge line. It is how we drive safely through the storm.”
To seek shelter from the storm, Suzanne advised her chapter members to find one of the clearest “PR Through Lines” in the PRSA Code of Ethics. She shared the professional values of advocacy, honesty, independence, loyalty, and fairness. “These feel like reassuringly clear guidelines for 2026, don’t they?” she asked.
In addition to the road map of “PR Though Lines,” Suzanne shared her “Secret to a Happy Chapter” for the June ECD Chapter Spotlight: “Stay current; encourage senior pros and new pros to mix; connect with your local PRSSA chapters; support members’ professional development; celebrate everyone’s successes; support other (allied) professional associations!”
